What is Advocacy?
We all know how frustrating it can be when people aren’t listening to us. Feeling unheard can damage our confidence, hurt our feelings, and cause mental anguish.
Communication is at the heart of every relationship we have. That’s why effective communication is so important. So what happens when those paid to provide us with service don’t listen?

What happens when people don’t listen properly, or aren’t really interested in what you have to say?
It’s tough at the best of times and if you have a mental health problem it can sometimes mean it’s even harder to have your opinions and ideas taken seriously by others.
This can be very difficult to deal with, especially when you need to communicate with professionals.
This is where advocacy can make a difference.
Advocacy means getting support from another person to help you express your views and wishes, and help you stand up for your rights.
Someone who helps you in this way is called your advocate.
Shore Trust offers free advocacy services to those who need help being heard.
